Om opplevelsen

Visiting Lofoten in winter and want more than just roadside views? Join our small-group snowshoe hike to Ryten — a proper mountain adventure with epic views, even if you’ve never hiked in snow before.

Looking for a proper winter adventure in Lofoten — something more exciting than roadside viewpoints and souvenir shops?

Then join our Guided Winter Snowshoe Hike to Ryten, one of Lofoten’s most iconic mountain tops!

You don’t need to be an athlete — just bring curiosity, warm clothes, and a sense of adventure.

We’ll handle the rest (and probably make you laugh along the way).

🏔️ About Ryten

Ryten (543 m) towers above Kvalvika Beach inside Lofotodden National Park, offering some of the best views in all of Lofoten. From the top, you can admire rugged mountain peaks, turquoise water, and the wild beauty that makes this place feel straight out of a dream.

The trail climbs about 500 meters in elevation, which means it’s not an easy walk — but it’s absolutely worth it. The summit views are so breathtaking that some of our guests have cried at the top (though it might have been the Arctic wind — we prefer to think it was emotions).

Ryten is also considered a relatively “safe” mountain for winter hiking due to its gentle slopes and low avalanche risk — making it the perfect goal for your first real snowshoe hike in Lofoten.

🥾 About the Tour

Your guide will pick you up at your accommodation anywhere between Å and Ramberg and drive you to the trailhead.

Depending on the snow conditions, we’ll use snowshoes, microspikes, or a combination of both.

Never used snowshoes before? No worries — we’ll show you everything: how to use them, how to adjust the poles, and how to layer your clothes so you stay warm without overheating.

We take it easy, with plenty of breaks for photos, snacks, and catching your breath (trust us, you’ll need it). In our small group of up to 8 people, everyone can walk at their own pace — and no one gets left behind.

If you’re a speedy mountain goat who prefers to run uphill, you can also book a private hike and let us know in advance — so Ivar can add a few extra squats to his training.

🗓️ Season: October – April (snowshoes may not be needed early/late in the season)

🧭 Who Will Be Your Guide

Most of our Ryten winter hikes are led by Ivar, who knows this mountain like the back of his (frozen) hand.

He’s a trained nurse, certified climbing instructor, and licensed taxi driver — in other words, you’re in good hands.

Sometimes, Radka or Jakub might join or lead the hike too — depending on the day and conditions.

We all live here year-round and have guided this route countless times, in every possible weather and light condition.
